Project description
Gender-based violence (GBV) is a violation of human rights and a significant obstacle to gender equality. Defined by the Istanbul Convention as harm perpetrated based on sex, gender, sexual orientation, or gender identity, GBV stems from imbalances of power, often intended to humiliate and subordinate its victims. Despite increased awareness, GBV remains pervasive. The 2022 Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) report reveals that 1 in 3 women in Europe have experienced physical or sexual violence, and over 43% have faced psychological abuse. Transgender persons also endure frequent violence, with 34% reporting violent threats or incidents. Alarmingly, most victims do not report these experiences due to fear, shame, or societal attitudes, including victim-blaming.
To address this, United Violet equips educators with innovative, interactive tools to combat GBV by fostering self-expression and creativity in their learners. By enhancing educators’ knowledge of GBV and its root causes, the project aims to empower women and transgender persons, build resilience, and combat gender discrimination. The United Violet Toolkit, Handbook and E-Platform offer narrative techniques, self-expression exercises, and storytelling resources to create safe, supportive spaces for educators and learners alike.
By addressing the root causes of GBV, empowering educators, and fostering creative self-expression, United Violet contributes to a collaborative European effort to combat gender-based violence and support its victims.
